About

Anne Minard

Anne Minard is a freelance writer splitting her time between Flagstaff, Arizona and Boulder, Colorado. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a master’s degree, also in biology, from Flagstaff’s Northern Arizona University. She began her career as a science and environmental reporter for newspapers in the West. Her early writing won awards from the Arizona Associated Press Managing Editor’s Association (APME) and the Arizona Press Club, among other organizations. For several years, she also reported and produced stories for KNAU/Arizona Public Radio, Flagstaff’s National Public Radio affiliate. A freelance science journalist in recent years, Anne has written stories for National Geographic News, the New York Times and many other outlets. She has also expanded her writing to include feature stories, travel narratives and even a handful of experimental, personal essays.

Her first book, Pluto and Beyond, was published in 2007, and in May 2010 she completed a yearlong Ted Scripps Fellowship for Environmental Journalism, at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

When she’s not writing, Anne swims, bikes, runs and competes occasionally in triathlons. She’s an outdoor enthusiast, loves animals (particularly her dog, Cedar and her cat, Kaya), travels, reads and enjoys word games – mostly Scrabble. Compelled frequently by wanderlust, Anne takes road trips whenever possible to chase stories or visit her family in the South.
